Pumpkin Decorating without Carving

Pumpkins are essential for fall season. The word pumpkin originates from a Greek word Pepon, which means large melon. When first European settlers came to America, they found out that those “large melons” can be easily carved as “Jack’s” lanterns and the carving tradition has endured until nowadays and is very popular ever since. But not everyone is into traditional pumpkin carving and there are plenty of good reasons. Your kids might be too small, your pumpkins might be too small, you don’t want to risk injury or maybe you simply want to try something different. For those who are not eager to disembowel their perfectly shaped holiday decoration, we put together this article suggesting alternative ideas without using a carving kit. Instead, our ideas require paint, markers, glue, candy, old stockings, bandages and primarily - imagination! Your options are never-ceasing and we are here to help!

Instead, our ideas require paint, markers, glue, candy, old stockings, bandages and primarily - imagination! Your options are never-ceasing and we are here to help!

Let’s start off with a simple idea. Gluing a face on your pumpkin looks pretty, is easy and mess free. The decoration will look pretty inside just like outside.

Small pumpkins are cute themselves but when painted as donuts, they become even more adorable. Dip the little cuties in paint and create sprinkles with a gentle touch of a small brush. Simple and so pretty!

Give your pumpkins Halloween look. White spider webs and bones look great on black foundation. The scenario will look even better complemented by a skull or other parts of a skeleton.

Instead of painting a spider, create one out of numerous pumpkins. You will need a few branches, white paper and buttons, as shown in the picture. The decoration will look great in front of your house.

If you got more candy that you can eat this year, use it as a decoration. Candy corn and black licorice can create a an original and beautiful owl look.

Depending on what is popular at your house at the moment, choose your favorite movie characters as a motive for your pumpkin. With a help of a few accessories from a craft store you will be the children’s hero.

We included one option that actually requires disemboweling, but look so pretty that we could not leave it out. Use you stitching skills, take a needle and a thread, and portray any Fall or Halloween themed picture.

Idea so simple that even the little ones can do it. Take a bandage, wrap your pumpkin in it and add eyes. Voila! Little mummy will complement any room in your house.

Give your old stocking one more chance before getting rid of it. Put a pumpkin inside of a stocking, tie it on both sides to give it a classy and stylish look.
