The key to a happy holiday is a well organized home. Here are some tips that will allow you to keep the chaos under control and enjoy the season.
Create a Separate “Work Room”
Carve out a space in your home, where you can get as messy as you need, as you are preparing your holiday decorations, writing your Christmas cards and wrapping presents. Having one area, preferably a room where you can shut the door on the clutter, will prevent things from getting out of hand in your home.
Don’t Have It? Rent It
Take the stress out of not having enough place settings or that extra guest bed, and rent what you need. Cozy new pieces can provide functionality and warm up your home for the holidays. Renting them means you save money and don’t have to make a commitment on purchasing items that you will only need for a month or two.
Stock the Cupboards
Kids want to make cookies? You just found out that you need an appetizer to bring to the party? You’ve been out shopping, but you still need to throw together something for dinner? Keep your cupboards, pantries, fridge and freezer well stocked, so you won’t be at a loss when things come up.
Create an Inviting Entry
Guests will get their first impression from the entrance of your home, so make sure to concentrate some effort here, with cleaning and arranging. Place welcome mats both outside and inside the front door to catch dirt and cut down on the cleaning.
Think of the Little Things
Little things do mean a lot. Creating guest baskets ahead of time, filled with clean towels, small soaps and other items will cut down on the scramble. Likewise, pick up some new holiday movies, or cue them up on your streaming device, to keep everyone entertained when you just need a moment to relax or put that dish in the oven.
