Trendy Two-Toned Kitchen Cabinets
A hot trend for interior kitchen design is the concept of two-toned cabinets. This kitchen cabinet style can be achieved in many ways, but all of them are trendsetters. For general guidelines here is an excerpt from castlega.com: “Put your darker or stronger color on the bottom and your lighter color on the top. That helps the room from looking too heavy and keeps things light on top. When you’re choosing paint, think about shades in the same color family or complementary colors. And for a coordinating pop of color, consider painting the back of your cabinets the color of your bottom cabinets.” Below are our favorite styles and we hope you gain some inspiration to start your home kitchen renovations.
An extremely popular choice with this style is a dark grey lower cabinet selection and a white upper kitchen cabinet selection.
To mix it up a bit, try adding different knobs to your cabinets. In the picture below, you can see the kitchen designer added clear crystal knobs with the white cabinets and heavy silver handles for the lower grey cabinets. Still keep in mind the guidelines of light on top and the heavier look on the bottom.
A nice bright statement color is also a great way to take a trendy spin on the traditional kitchen design.
A transitional look is another way to accomplish a two-toned design. In the interior design below you can see the transition from white to grey.
Following the popular grey and white color scheme, this two-toned design is unique in the fact that it is directly layered on all the cabinets.
Similar to the look above, this style is an inversion of the idea above. It is done with all pale tones to leave a light and airy feel in the kitchen.
The design below has two forms of a two-toned design. The one cabinet selection is two toned with cream and a pale yellow, and is also paired with a grey selection. This cottage feel is pulled off with complementary colors and a dark wood kitchen island.
This spin on the popular grey cabinets is a mix of light wood doors on the grey cabinet encasing. It provides a contemporary and rustic kitchen feel.
Mixing traditional cabinet wood with a pop of color is a very stylish choice. In the picture below you get a mix of textures and shades of teal.
Another neat idea mentioned in the introduction of this article is the idea of painting the backs of the top cabinets to match the lower cabinet color. The picture below effortlessly accomplishes this with the two glass kitchen cabinets showcasing the pop of light teal.
