Battle of the Sexes: Men vs Women in the Bathroom

When it comes to designing the perfect bathroom, men have something definite to say, and the women may not like it.

When it comes to designing the perfect bathroom, men have something definite to say, and the women may not like it.

Towels covered in makeup or hanging underwear constitute two of the biggest pet peeves when it comes to things men would like to change about their bathroom, according to Premier Vanities, but the real challenge comes when it is time to renovate the hardest working room in the house.

In general, men prefer a bathroom design that contains rich dark colors and woods and clean straight lines. Stone tiling, and a higher vanity are also on the list. This may conflict with their female partner’s choice of lighter colors, softer shades, and bright lighting.

When it comes to the accessories in the bathroom, men think a magazine rack is important, and their dream bathroom accessory is a television mounted on a swing arm.

Women prefer linen storage to magazine storage, a soaking tub with jets and a dry vanity with seating.

Merging the two preferences into one bathroom can be difficult for most couples. Incorporating the one or two most important features or design elements for each person can help, but to prevent an all out war and ruin to the relationship, the couple may want to consider hiring an interior designer, who can find a way of merging the different styles and priorities to make everyone happy.
