Make the Most of your Entryway
Your entryway is the first thing visitors see on their way into your home and the last thing when they leave. An oft-neglected space, your entryway can make a big impression.
Think of your entryway as its own special room. Although its primary use may be as a public welcoming area, this space can serve in other functional ways. The secret is to combine impressive design with useful and practical elements. For example, an elegant antique desk can set the design theme, while also providing an area for mail processing and bill paying. Do you enjoy gardening? Scout out a marble-topped dresser with plenty of drawers to keep flower bulbs, small gardening tools and more. To keep the theme, display some pretty pots filled with delicate plants or colorful seed packets. Garden scenes on the wall can also add to the effect.
Working with existing architectural elements will give the best results. A sweeping staircase may offer a quiet oasis underneath that is just waiting for seating, a small bookcase and a lamp for reading. Alternately, place a good rug, some plush pillows and a trunk or case filled with special board games.
Make the most of your entryway while also making it uniquely yours.
