Color of the Year 2018
The Hottest Color of 2018 has been announced and Pantone crowned Ultra Violet supreme. In 2018, we are straying away from last year’s mood of revival in the zesty and fresh color Greenery, and tapping into the individuality, imaginative and creative palette of Ultra Violet.
Pantone describes the color of the year as “complex and contemplative.” Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, said, “from exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, in, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”
Peace, serenity and self-love trended in the prior winners of 2016 with Rose Quartz and Serenity. The soft rose color and cool blue, set the tone of creating a calm environment within your home décor. Then in 2017 the accent color Greenery found its way to the top of the list, which invited the idea of adding the feelings of new beginnings and rejuvenation. Ultra Violet fits right into the narrative of pushing the boundaries in home décor creativity. The blue-based purple color takes our awareness and potential to a higher level,” said Eiseman.
Past winners, such as Radiant Orchid (2014) and Honeysuckle (2011), embodied the same imaginative and spiritually uplifting elements of the purple shade. What elevates the 2018 winner to the next level and beyond the other colors is what Pantone calls “spiritual, cosmic hue.”
Ultra Violet Home Decor Ideas
Since Ultra Violet is such a magical color, the best way to work with it is by using its boldness as an accent throughout your home. This color forces you to be a little more imaginative because of its blue-tinged purple hue. “Whether you end up with a few sprigs of lilac in a jar, a pair of purple throw pillows, or a vintage rug with a few violet threads in it, the easiest way to start decorating with a new color is to take baby steps,” said Pantone. An easy first step is to paint picture frames for your living room, pair with white linens or accessorize with pillows or blankets in the bedroom.
Another way to overpower the power of this hue is to pair it with purples, pinks and blues and embracing the “moody theme,” in addition with darker colors. If you’re in the daring mood, go all out and make a statement with Ultra Violet couches or chairs.
Eiseman described that the “enigmatic purple” aids in the exploration of self, “the vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.”
Ultra Violet has been synonymous with a spiritual quality that brings in good energy and an expressive power that will zen out any room. So, if you life desires more inspiration don’t be afraid to splash the purple-toned color in an extra room or make it an accent mark in your home décor. Your home will be fashion-forward in no time.
