Make a Clean Cut
Dull mower blades will tear at your grass, leaving jagged edges and damaged leaves instead of a clean cut. When this happens, your lawn is more vulnerable to disease and more likely to fail. Learn to sharpen your blades yourself or send them out for sharpening. Schedule this after every twelve hours of use, sooner if you hit obstacles, such as twigs or rocks while mowing.
Get to Know Your Lawn
Test kits, which cost less than $20, can tell you a lot about your lawn. Getting complete measurements of the amount and type of nutrients available in the soil, as well as the pH levels can give you a game plan for optimizing your lawn care.
