Paper Clutter Be Gone!

Cleaning & Organization | HGDI ADMIN

It is time to leave the paper trail behind. Take advantage of the following clutter control tips, and reclaim your home this week.

According to the National Association of Professional Organizers, 8o percent of the paper that we file away never gets looked at again. Chances are that also applies to the paper we have spilling from the desks, tables and countertops in our homes, unless of course we get an accidental glance at a sheet or two as we are shoving it out of the way.

It is time to leave the paper trail behind. Take advantage of the following clutter control tips, and reclaim your home this week.

Just Say No: When you reduce the amount of paper that comes in your home, you also reduce the amount of time that you spend dealing with it. You can register your address at DMAchoice.org to get off of the junk mail lists. For legitimate sources, such as schools and favorite businesses, sign up for the electronic alternatives to newsletters and other informative paper work.

No More Bills: When bills come in, save them only long enough to pay them. Then shred those bills. They are not essential documents to keep. A better solution may be to go for paperless bill paying and eliminate the bill clutter entirely.

Survival of the Newest: Don’t let any junk mail or flyers that do get through the door take up long-term residence in your home. Immediately recycle what you have no desire to permanently own. This also goes for magazines, newspapers and catalogues after you read them. A good rule of thumb is to only keep the last one to three issues of any particular periodical. If you haven’t read the older editions, chances are that you never will.

Scan-dalous: Scan the clippings and documents you want to keep and turn them into PDF documents that can be stored, searched and shared electronically. Use a stand alone scanner or any one of a number of free phone apps to get the job done fast.

The days of drowning in paper clutter are at an end.
