Open Floor Plans- The Dream!

Interior Design Trends | Mikaila Cordeau

Open plan concepts are taking the interior home industry by storm. The layouts are the envy of many house buyers right now. They are the perfect combination of everything that is trending. Repurposing, upcycling, restoration, entertaining, open flow, high ceilings, and exposed beams. This concept ties in with the industrial trend as well. The free flow of space allows for easy and great entertaining. Enjoy the many possibilities and start tearing down some walls.

The Classic Layout:

This is the most basic open floor plan concept. An easy flow and transition between sections. It is a vertical alignment that one section follows another in line. The kitchen, then the dining area and lastly your living room area. A great way to keep sections separated is with lighting. Add different light fixtures to divide the sections.

Small Space Open Concept:
An open space concept can be done in any size space. The white walls and floors provide a false sense of a larger space.

Traditional and Rustic:
This traditional layout is another classic. The break up of sections is done with the kitchen counters and bar.

Color Scheme Flow:
Carrying similar colors and tones throughout the sections bring the entire open space together. Use a statement wall or patterned curtains to break up the monotony.

Unconventional:
This open space concept is very unique. It has an overhead glass loft that brings open concept to a whole new level.

Pops of Color:
Use greys and whites for the majority of the space; the major furniture pieces. Then add multiple colors and patterns to brighten up the space through the accessories.

Sleek Industrial Restorations
Barn Restorations: Restoration and repurposing is very trendy right now. Why not have your whole house be a restoration? This restoration project is perfect for an open plan concept. This can be done in so many ways and can provide many different atmospheres.

19th Century Mansion:
This restoration turned a gothic classic to a modern industrial loft.

Warehouse Restoration:
The great thing about restoration is being able to keep the original, beautiful architect. This window is stunning and tells a story with its history.

Converted Tram Shed:
Restoration projects are fun and provide interesting stories. The industrial movement has played a large role in finding old industrial areas and restoring them into a residential estate.

Loft Restoration:
This looks like an old factory, but they achieved this by tearing down walls for three separate units in an apartment complex and ended up with this industrial beauty.

Architectural Wonder:
Unique arches or slanted ceilings with exquisite lighting make an everyday stunning view.

Separate Areas with Area Rugs
If you would like to keep each area in their own section you can do that by adding different area rugs to each of your separate spaces. A textured rug in the living room area, a matt floor covering under your bar stools, and a basic rug in your dining room area. You can also play with decorative rugs this way.

Transitional:
Make the space open and free flowing or close off the bedroom with sliding translucent wall dividers.

High Ceilings:
Open spaces and high ceilings go together like peanut butter and jelly. They are the perfect compliments. Also, if you have exposed beams it really brings the whole space together in a cohesive manner.
