Decorating with Stained Glass Windows

Interior Design Trends | Mikaila Cordeau

Stained glass windows are not stuck in medieval times. They are a strong beautiful statement that creates a wonderful addition to any room. They have been revamped and can be used in a whole new way. Some vintage homes have been restored to keep the original stained glass. Today they are creating new designs and styles with stained glass; they do not have to be a thing of the past. So whether you prefer the traditional look or a new fresh take on a classic there is so many designs to choose from that can be tailored to your home decor. Another great perk is that these stained glass windows can be added to any room or space in your home. They provide a stunning focal point, and let in different shades when the sun hits the window just right.

Laundry Room

A great place to put a stained glass window is the laundry room because the laundry room usually gets the least attention when the interior designing takes place. This way you can just add a decorative window, and it will add flare to the room without you having to do much. It is also hard to decorate a laundry room, so this adds decor and draws the eye away from the bulky machines.

Sunroom

This is an easy way to add stained glass windows. You have to be careful with the design choice though because you do not want the look to be cluttered. A great way to achieve this is by leaving clear window space in between the designs, and having just the very top of the windows to have the design. You can see in the examples below.

Entries and Doorways

This is the classic way to add stained glass windows into your home. A very simple and beautiful way to add the designs. Entry ways are sometimes hard to decorate, so this is another simple cheat to add lots of color to your entrance. This makes a great lasting first impression for guests and visitors.

Bathroom

This is probably the second place people think to add a stained glass window (entry-way being the first). This room is another easy space because you want your windows to provide privacy, but you may not like the look of bulky curtains. In the examples below you can see there are so many ways to add stained glass. You can do the class route and have one right behind a tub, you can add a section of it above your sink, or you can provide a theme and add it to your shower in addition to behind the tub to tie both in together.

Hallways

When a home has an original stained glass window it might not be in an actual room, so that is when you pretty much just leave it where it originally was and work around it. You can also add a window to a hallway to add some natural light because this is an easy way to knock out some wall for a window. This is another space that is not completely easy to decorate, so a decorative window is an easy way to add a design element.

Kitchen

Another simple way to add stained glass is behind your kitchen sink in your main window. This is best to usually go minimal on the design because you want lots of natural light to pour into your kitchen. The example below is a great way to add a simplistic design.

Home Office

The use of just a touch of design is a beautiful way to keep the admirers of the design wanting more. It also allows you to have lots of natural light still, and in a home office you will need lots of light. Furthemore, with large windows you do not want a cluttered design taking up the entire space.

Living Room
This is a space many people may not think to add a stained glass window, but it can be done. In one of the examples below you can see that you do not need the stained glass window design to be in an actual window; the stained glass can be in a room divider which provides an easy way to add stained glass to your home without renovations. It also it is a versatile way to give the illusion that your home is larger than it actually is. You get the beautiful design without the commitment.

Home Library

This is probably easiest with a home that has the stained glass in its original architecture. In the example below the room design embraces the original window as a focal point to the entire room. With a gorgeous architectural structure like that, you would not want to take away from its beauty.

Dining Room

This is a great simple way to add a tiny bit of design to large windows. This is a bit unconventional because the design is in the middle of the windows, but that is what makes it so interesting and beautiful.
