5 Things Your Backyard Bash Needs

Exterior & Landscaping | HGDI ADMIN

Put your next outdoor party at the top of everyone’s talked about list when you offer your guests the following five things that will have them admiring your hospitality and style.

Ladder: Your backyard bash needs a ladder, not so the guests can escape quickly, because they won’t want to leave. The ladder is to hold a heap of blankets, encouraging guests to hang around even after the sun goes down.

Fun Kits: Assemble some fun activity kits. They will give your guests the opportunity to mingle and be a little silly. Plus, everyone wants to remember those lovely summer nights spent as a kid, playing the day away. Here are some ideas.

  • Tie-dye T-shirt kit
  • S’Mores kit that includes exotic fillings
  • Bubble solution and wands of different sizes and shapes
  • Small flashlights and colored “gels”
  • Sparkers and small fireworks (as long as your state allows)
  • Dress up box filled with masks, feathered boas, hats, wigs, funny glasses and other accessories
  • Water balloon kit.

Firepit: If you don’t have a built-in firepit, pick up a portable one at any home improvement store or DIY by clearing a small area in your backyard and surrounding it with rocks. A firepit can set the mood in the evening, as well as encourage guests to try their hand at being top chef with the marshmallows.

Twinkle Lights and Votive Candles: The more atmosphere the better, and the right lighting accessories can set the mood. Drape the twinkle lights in unexpected places, and load up flat surfaces with votive candles. Use family-friendly battery powered candles for convenience.

Music Playlist: You can’t have a fabulous outdoor smash without the music. Don’t make it an afterthought. No professional DJ on hand? No problem. Make up a playlist ahead of time or use a free service such as Pandora or Spotify to do it for you.
