Nobody likes having to do work in an office space that is dull, boring, gray, and gloomy. A study from Science Daily has shown that designing your own work space is actually proven to make you more productive, while also making you happier and healthier! So why not take advantage of that fact and begin to decorate your home office the way you want to add your own flare. Here are 10 simple ways that you can vamp up your work area with color and clever functionality.

1. Bright Frames

Starting off, add frames of your family and friends in bright colored frames. This will instantly bring in vibrant accents that will spark more creativity. To do this, simply go to a thrift shop and find old frames that are unique from one another. Spray paint or hand paint them whatever colors you like and place around your desk.

2. Corbel Mail Organizer

Using wooden corbels to organize mail, magazines, books, or other papers is a very unique way to re-purpose an item to something that fits your needs. Paint each corbel whatever color you desire. Screw the corbels onto a wooden plank so they are stable to stand on their own without falling over. Everyone will be asking where you got such an unique office piece!

3. Paint Chip Calendar

Organize each month with this nifty calendar that is made out of paint swatches. Get paint chips from a hardware store and use them as blocks for each day. Up-cycle an old frame with glass so you can use it as a board you can write on but can also wipe clean when the month changes.

4. Metal Bucket Organizer

Use this simple little trick to keep your office supplies organized. Buy small metal planters and use chalkboard paint to personalize each container to whatever you would like to put in them. This keeps all of your supplies in one place so you don't have pens and pencils rolling all over your desk.

5. Fun DIY Button Lamp

Personalize a lamp to something that fits your office space decor. To make this lamp, find a worn down brass lamp from a thrift store. Spray paint it to whatever color you like. Take the shade and hot glue buttons all around it. When it is turned on, the buttons will glow!

6. Shoe Box Chord Holder

Ever have all of your get tangled up? Here is an easy way to keep all of your chords together but separate. Take an old shoe box and  cut holes large enough for chords to go through. Place a breaker in the box and plug in all of your charging docks. Fish the chords through the wholes and label each hole to know  which chord is what. Decorate the box to your liking and place on your desk!

7. Denim Pocket Holders

If you would rather have your pens and pencils up off of your desk and not in metal planters, use this idea to hang on your wall. Simply take a long canvas board and cover it in fabric. Carefully cut the pockets off of old jeans and attach to the canvas using super glue or traditional stitching. Make sure to only stitch or glue around the outside so the pocket is open to stick office supplies in.

8. Pallet Wall Organizer

Re-purposing wooden pallets is huge right now and here is another way you can use them! Use the pallet as an organizer for magazines and books. To do this, take off some of the planks of wood and use them as the bases for each shelf. Stain the pallet for a  fresh and finished look.

9. Refurbished Office Chair
