5 Unusual Things that Kill Bugs Dead

Clever DIY Ideas | HGDI ADMIN

The warmer weather brings more than sun. It often brings bugs to your home and garden. For major infestations you may want to call in a professional, but you can also try one of the following unusual methods for getting rid of bugs.

Cola: Bugs love the sugary sweetness of a can of cola, just as we humans do. The difference? A sip of cola will be the last thing the bugs drink. It is toxic to bugs from ants to roaches.

Wine: Fruit flies will have a grand party when you ply them with a little wine. Their fun won’t last long, and the bugs will soon expire. Put an inch of wine into a small-necked bottle. The fruit flies will enter the bottle, but they won’t be able to get back out. (Learn more ways to get rid of fruit flies.)

Cinnamon: Ants absolutely loathe cinnamon. It messes up the trails they lay down to lead their buddies to the food, and it can be toxic to them. Cinnamon is most affective against ants when it is sprinkled liberally near ant entrance points.

Vasoline (Petroleum Jelly): Give roaches the message that they aren’t welcome when you make a home made roach trap using Vasoline. Rub the stuff on the inside of a mason jar and then add a bit of bait, such as a piece of banana. The roaches won’t be able to resist the treat, but the coated jar is death trap for the bugs.

Soapy Water: For those who want to see their enemy, know that spraying bugs, such as roaches, directly with soapy water will kill them; this method is safer than traditional bug sprays and very convenient.
