5 Types of Storage Your Garage Needs

Cleaning & Organization | HGDI ADMIN

If you can’t fit your car in the garage then it may be time to get organized. Here are the five types of storage that every garage needs to keep it tidy and neat.

Pegboard Tool Storage

Pegboards allow you to store items vertically, taking advantage of wall space to increase your storage and get things out of bins and off of floors. Easy, inexpensive and quick to install, pegboards can be a great long-term solution for storing tools and other equipment in the garage. Pegboards can be of use almost anywhere, even in narrow spaces, and they keep frequently used items at hand.

Closed Storage Cabinets

Not everything has to be on display in the garage, and closed storage for awkward, bulky or messy looking things can benefit from closed storage cabinets. Look for cabinets that are specially made for the garage. They come in shallow depths to make them perfect for fitting in to narrow spots and allowing clearance for cars. These cabinets will give you the most storage when they go all the way up to the ceiling, so measure carefully.

Mobile Tool Cabinets

Sturdy metal cabinets with multiple drawers are just right for tool storage, hobby supply storage and also craft storage. They can keep everything organized, from those tiny screws that might otherwise go missing to hammers and saws. The wheels make it easy to bring your supplies right to your work area. Look for a metal cabinet with locks on it that will keep small fingers away from sharp tools and other hazards.

Plastic or Wire Bins

Small wire bins can be hung from your pegboard to hold small to medium items, such as bungee cords, paint roller pads and more. Plastic “milk crate” bind can corral sports equipment and children’s toys, such as basketballs, baseball mitts and roller blades. Both are available in various sizes, so base your selection of these bins on your need. Wire bins are also available on wheels.

Garage Shelving

Shelving tends to be on of the least desired types of garage storage, because it often to collects everything in an unorganized manner. Shelves are easy to dump on, and they can take up quite a bit of space. If you choose to use shelves, look for ones with a shallow depth and keep them tidy with boxes, bins and dividers so everything has a place. Alternatively, hang a few individual shelves against the wall as needed.
